Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III
September 25, 2020
Mayor Francisco Domagoso; National Treasurer Rosalia de Leon; Mr. Kevin Tan, Executive Vice President of Megaworld; Atty. Benedicta Du-Baladad, the most distinguished tax lawyer in the Philippines, Project Lead of FINEX Academy; senior officials of the Land Bank of the Philippines, Development Bank of the Philippines, and the Commission on Audit; friends in the media: good afternoon.
We have seen how our past 232 lucky winners enjoyed the prizes they got from investing in the Premyo bonds. Today, Mayor Domagoso and I will draw another batch of 100 winners of 20 thousand pesos each; 15 winners of 100 thousand pesos each; and one grand prize winner of one million pesos. That millionaire will also receive a condominium unit from Megaworld, so thank you Kevin, and please thank your dad also.
I strongly urge the winners to consider using their rewards to start small businesses and create jobs. They can also choose to reinvest their money in government bonds. Doing so will help support the nation’s fight against the pandemic.
The Premyo Bonds have proven to be a very attractive investment option for small investors. In the last offering, we raised 5 billion pesos from an initial size of 3 billion pesos. The issuance has not only exceeded expectations in terms of subscription, but also in promoting financial inclusion. The Premyo Bonds have encouraged thousands of new small investors to participate in this underdeveloped market.
The overwhelming response from the public encouraged the Bureau of the Treasury to offer a second round of Premyo Bonds this November. I was told that the prizes for this year’s issuance are even bigger and more generous than those offered in the Filipino television game shows–that’s why our theme here looks like a game show.
The theme of our upcoming Premyo Bonds is “pangkabuhayan”. We want the bond prizes to be effective instruments in creating job opportunities and helping Filipinos bounce back from the COVID-19 crisis.
We have seen the huge success of the Bonds dot PH mobile application in our last PROGRESO bonds offering. We will be using this digital channel again to broaden the public’s access to this year’s Premyo Bonds.
We will also make investing easier and more accessible to Filipinos across the globe. We are closely working with the Overseas Filipino Bank to ensure that Filipinos abroad will be able to conveniently purchase Premyo Bonds by November.
With an investment of as little as 500 pesos, anyone can participate in the Premyo bonds. It is a safe investment that ensures a fair return plus a chance to win prizes. In addition, these bonds highlight our individual roles as Filipinos in helping build back a better, more resilient economy during these challenging times.
The more small investors save their money by putting them in government bonds, the closer we are to move towards achieving President Duterte’s paramount goal of a comfortable life for all Filipinos.
Without further ado, let us now get on with today’s draw. I congratulate the winners in advance. I thank you all for the support you have given to the government.
Thank you very much.
