Watch the Manila 2018 Host Country Event with the theme “Past, Present, and Future of the World Economy,” which looked back to the past with a new understanding, examined the relevance of the key structures of the present global financial system, and explored how multilateral institutions and governments can adapt by harnessing new opportunities while navigating the hazards of digital future.
The Part 1: The Silk Road and Beyond gave in-depth discussions of exploring the dynamics that shaped the ancient world economic order dominated by the old silk road trade routes and how it related to Asia’s re-emergence as a global economic powerhouse.
The Part 2: Saving the International Economic Order discussed the tectonic shifts in the global economy and the repercussions of the continued misalignment of representation in the international governance institutions.
The Part 3: Financial Technology for Inclusion talked about the use of digital innovations and new technologies as tools to attain inclusive growth and how its accompanying risks and downsides can be addressed.
The seminar was part of the series of parallel events at the 51st Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) from May 3-6, 2018 at the ADB Headquarters in Mandaluyong City.
