“Every action we make must translate into real, tangible progress that every Filipino can feel.”

This was the defining message of Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go as he officially assumed leadership of the Department of Finance (DOF) on November 19, 2025, setting a clear direction for the country’s economy.

Coming in at a crucial time when Filipinos are in the process of rebuilding and relying on the government for action, Secretary Go expressed firm resolve in his newfound mission of steering the Philippine economy towards greater heights, while ensuring the delivery of the government’s promises.

“Our people deserve no less,” the new Finance Chief asserted.

He encouraged the men and women of the DOF to work together to meet these challenges head-on and recommit to their shared responsibility of serving not just the institution, but the people.

“We are here to take action, improve lives, and make a difference through a government that is responsive and efficient. And so today, I accept this role with humility, resolve, and a full heart—ready to do the hard work, ready to lead and to build trust in government,” Secretary Go said.

Secretary Go said that he welcomes constructive suggestions and actionable ideas, noting that these contributions will strengthen the Department’s efforts to deliver impactful and responsive solutions.

Prior to assuming his role as Finance Secretary, Go served as Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs (SAPIEA) where he ensured the effective integration, coordination, and implementation of the administration’s investment and economic policies and programs.

In this capacity, Secretary Go also headed the Economic Development Committee (EDCom), supervising and monitoring developments in key government agencies.

Before he was called to serve, Secretary Go had already established himself in the corporate scene, leading several successful business ventures where he served as Chairman, Vice-Chairman, President, CEO, and Director of six listed companies and a number of corporations. His experience spans 35 years across various industries including media, retail, real estate, food, banking, finance, airline, airport, petrochemicals, gaming, and power.

With his foresight and business acumen, Secretary Go was instrumental in driving the timely delivery of investment projects, trade agreements, and pledges to support the growth of the Philippine economy.

In accepting the portfolio, Secretary Go acknowledged that his strategic direction builds upon the solid foundations laid by his predecessor. He paid tribute to the stewardship of former Finance Chief-turned-Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto, emphasizing the seamless transition between their leaderships.

“The progress we see today in the Department of Finance is a testament to ES Recto’s vision and commitment to public service,” Secretary Go said.
