Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III and Professor Gopalkrishna Gandhi met recently in the city of Chennai in eastern India to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral ties between the Philippines and India through people-to-people exchanges. Prof. Gandhi, who currently teaches political science, history and Indian Civilizations at Ashoka University, proposed that these exchanges engage the youth by encouraging them to participate in dialogues with academic leaders and artists who will promote the arts, culture, literature and philosophy of the two countries. A former ambassador and ex-governor of the Indian state of West Bengal, Prof. Gandhi is the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest thinkers and leaders of the 20th century whose philosophy of non-violent resistance led India to the path of independence against British rule, and later, inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the globe.
