Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III has offered a special briefing on the economy for Senator Imee Marcos to be conducted by a senior official of the Cabinet’s Economic Development Cluster (EDC) to clarify the concerns she raised during a recent Senate hearing on the government’s ongoing efforts to fight the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.

In a letter to the lady senator, Dominguez said that as chairman of the EDC, he acknowledges these concerns and has assured Marcos that the Cluster is “studying the points” she had raised during the hearing.

“As Chair of the Economic Development Cluster (EDC) of the Duterte administration, I acknowledge the questions and concerns you raised regarding the Philippine economy during the Senate Committee of the Whole Hearing on the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic last May 20, 2020,” Dominguez’s letter sent to Marcos Tuesday (May 26), said.

During the Senate’s Committee of the Whole virtual hearing conducted via Zoom last week, Marcos asked Dominguez about the government’s stimulus program to help the economy and the people recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the access of farmers to affordable credit facilities in this time of crisis, the budget deficit, and the country’s debt-to-GDP ratio, among other concerns.

“To clarify concerns you and the Senate Committee on Economic Affairs may have on the national economy, particularly on the national accounts, I would like to offer a special briefing to be conducted by a senior official from the EDC at your earliest convenience,” the letter added. “Rest assured that the EDC is studying the points you raised during the Committee hearing.”
