Finance Secretary Cesar V. Purisima administers the oath of office to Ma. Edita Z. Tan, appointed Undersecretary of the Department of Finance (DOF) by President Benigno S. Aquino III last 8 March 2016.
Tan, who has been the Assistant Secretary of the International Finance Group since October 2012, is largely responsible for the DOF’s successful chairmanship and hosting of the APEC 2015 Finance Ministers’ Process and all related events, including the development and adoption of the Cebu Action Plan by all member economies. Since 2015, she is also serving as the focal person for the Philippine chairmanship of the Vulnerable 20 (V20) Group of Finance Ministers under the Climate Vulnerable Forum.
From October 2013 to May 2015, she was detailed to the Bureau of Customs in charge of the Revenue Collection Monitoring Group, where she introduced major reforms such as the adoption of dual lanes in the airports of Manila, Cebu and Clark, increased collection of duties and taxes from GOCCs, improved the quality of cases filed by the Bureau with the Justice Department, and enhanced the analysis of Customs revenue trends and collection.
From January 2009 to February 2011 she was seconded to the World Bank as an Advisor. Tan has been with the DOF for 24 years.
